First Day in Asia
Technically it’s day two as we arrived into South Korea yesterday late afternoon. By the time we hit customs, baggage, the taxi stand and made it to our flat, it was 6pm- just enough time to eat dinner and sleep off the jet lag! So we are just going to skip the mundane happenings of yesterday and say that today is our FIRST DAY IN ASIA!
To say that we are elated to be here is an understatement. I don’t really have a clear picture of what I was expecting. I grew up in a third world country, now live in a well developed one so very few things truly shock me anymore. I don’t know if that’s good or bad but Korea has all the hustle and structure of a Western country while still having the cultural heritage of a traditional one.
Our flat is in Incheon, about 30 minutes south west of Seoul where you can find quiet teahouses in the middle of the busy city. There are bustling restaurants with smoked chicken and octopus hanging by a string in the window, winding alleyways bordered by traditional hanok houses and rows of street venders frying fish and noodles in a cloud of smoke. It’s a place of extreme contrasts-fast paced streets with peaceful temples, high tech lifestyle with simple charms. In my humble 24 hours of estimation, I find Korea absolutely lovely!
We had our first bridal session today with Amanda in the town of Sewon. We took a 2 hour train and a 30 minute bus ride to get up to the village where we wanted to shoot. It’s monsoon season which means the sky is constantly filled with thunder clouds and taunts us with rain at every moment. Fortunately, it held off for a few hours to give us plenty of time to wander the village and incorporate the beauty and color of Korea into Amanda’s images.
